Foxtail millet (Setaria italica) is a rapidly growing warm-season grass with excellent heat and drought tolerance. Its dense fibrous root system creates a large volume of fine roots in the upper soil profile, helping improve aggregation and feed soil microorganisms. Rapid canopy formation provides useful weed suppression and substantial carbon-rich biomass. It is well suited to short summer cover-crop windows and mixtures with warm-season legumes.
