Tillage radish

Tillage radish (Raphanus sativus) is a fast-growing brassica renowned for producing a large taproot capable of penetrating compacted surface and subsurface soil layers. The root creates biological channels that can subsequently be exploited by earthworms and following crop roots. Its vigorous autumn growth also captures significant quantities of residual nitrogen and produces rapid ground cover. After frost-kill and decomposition, the large roots leave cavities in the soil that improve infiltration and contribute readily decomposable organic matter.
