Comments

When visitors leave comments, we collect the information entered in the comment form, as well as the commenter’s IP address and browser identification string, to help detect unwanted content.

An anonymised string generated from the email address (commonly called a hash) is sent to the Gravatar service if it is used on the website. The terms of the Gravatar service are available at https://automattic.com/privacy/. Once a comment has been approved, the content of the comment and the profile picture are displayed publicly.

Media

If a registered user uploads images to the website, they should avoid uploading images containing EXIF data that include GPS location information. Visitors to the website can download images and extract location data from them.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on the website, we store the name, email address and website address you provide in cookies. This is for your convenience, so that you do not have to fill in these fields again when leaving another comment. These cookies expire after one year.

If you visit the login page, we set temporary cookies to determine whether your browser accepts cookies. These cookies contain no personal information and are deleted when you close your browser.

When you log in to the website, we set several cookies to save your login information and your preferences for the appearance of the editing interface. Login cookies remain valid for two days, while a cookie storing the display preferences for the editing interface remains valid for one year. If you select “Remember me”, your login will remain active for two weeks. Login cookies are removed when you log out.

If you edit a post or page, an additional cookie is stored in your browser. This cookie contains no personal data and simply stores the identification number of the post you edited. It expires after one day.

Embedded content from other websites

Posts on the website may include content embedded from external sources (e.g. videos, images or articles). Embedded content from external sources behaves in exactly the same way as if you had visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about visitors, use cookies or third-party tracking code, and monitor your interactions with the embedded content if you have a user account and are logged in to the relevant website.

Who we share user data with

If you request a password reset, your IP address is included in the password reset email.

How long we retain personal data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This allows us to recognise and approve subsequent comments rather than placing them in the moderation queue.

For users registered on the website (if any), personal data are also stored in their user profiles. All users can view, edit or delete their personal data at any time, except that they cannot change their username. Website administrators can also view and edit this information.

What rights users have regarding their data

If you have a registered account on the website or have left a comment, you may request an export file containing the personal data you have previously provided to us. You may also request that we delete any personal data you have previously provided. This does not include data we are required to retain for administrative, legal or security purposes.

Where we send data

Comments submitted by visitors may be checked by an automated spam detection service.
