Practical support from real agronomists

Showy Flower mix Basic

A mixture consisting of seeds from 20 native insect-pollinated herbaceous plant species. The annual species produce a flower-covered surface as early as the first year, in the shade of which biennial and perennial plants grow. Starting in the second year, we will have a colorful wildflower field where numerous species of bees and butterflies will find suitable living conditions.

Showy Flower mix Basic

  • Type: Wildflower seed mixture
  • Main functions: Flowering display, pollinator habitat and botanical diversity
  • Mixture size: 20 native insect-pollinated herbaceous species
  • Life cycles: Annual, biennial and perennial components
  • Flowering pattern: Annual display during establishment; longer-lived species develop later
  • Establishment: Clean, firm seedbed and consistent surface moisture
  • Management: Seasonal cutting and weed control rather than frequent lawn mowing

Showy Flower mix Basic creates a flowering patch that changes as the plant community develops. Annual species provide early colour and temporary cover while slower biennial and perennial plants establish underneath and between them.

Remove established weeds before sowing and distribute the seed evenly at the pack rate. Avoid burying the small seeds deeply and keep the surface moist during emergence. Excessive fertilisation can favour grasses and aggressive weeds at the expense of wildflowers.

Allow flowering and manage cutting around the life cycles of the plants. Remove heavy cut material if it would suppress regrowth. Flowering abundance varies with weather, site and management. Native status is specific to geography, so use the mix where its supplied species are appropriate to the local habitat.
